| Under the background of economic globalization and knowledge economy, thecompetition between countries has shifted from brands, services, technologiestostandards competition, the standards competition has become the commanding heightof international competition and market competition. Owningstandard meansmarketdominance, which is conducive to open international markets and enhanceinternational influence.Most existed Studies researchinginfluence factors of standardscompetition focus on the science and technology level and innovation capacity of acountry, but ignore the objective fact that technology innovation capability cannotfully explain the outcome of standards competition. National scale is one importantfactor affecting the outcome.In addition, the empirical analysis of influential factorsof standards competition is also multi-case analysis, only few of themuse empiricaltest. Therefore, analyzing the systematic mechanism of national scale affectingstandards competition and committing empirical tests are essential for China settingstandards competition strategy.On the basis of systematical summarization of domestic and foreign national scaleand standards competition research status quo, the paper theoretically analyzesthenational scale’s scale effect, spatial effect, innovative effect, and spillover effects,whichaffect five key elements influencing outcome of standards competition throughchain transmission mechanism, and further affect the final outcome. On the basis oftheoretically analyzing the method national scale affects standards competition, Thearticle,through controlling the factors influencing the scientific and technologicalinnovation of standards competition, uses11countries’ international panel data toverify the influence brought by national scale on standards competition. The empiricalresults show that, thoughscientific and technological innovation level are thefundamentalparts to standards competition, but they cannot explain all the reasons forthe outcome, and national scale does matter, comparisonto the small countries, thelargeones’ GDP, population, service trading scale, spatial effects, innovation effectsand spillover effects and scale effectsare larger, which can influence the result of theinternational standards competition. Finally, according to research resultsthis paperputs forward relevant policy suggestions and strategies to provide decision-makingreference for china’s participation in standards competition and formulating standardscompetition strategy. |
