In recent years, industrial knowledge bases as a new term is active in multiple areas of innovation, it profoundly affects the innovation process and the essence of an enterprise. Foreign scholars have studied the theory of industrial knowledge bases, but there are few studies on industrial knowledge bases, and no study on the evolution of industry module in the process of industrial knowledge bases formation. Therefore, this study reviews the theory of industrial knowledge bases, focus on analysis of the produce of modular structure of industrial knowledge bases, and concludes the evolution path of knowledge bases.In this study, at first, arranging the Derwent patent data from1976to2010in fields of CNC machine and recombinant DNA technology. These two areas will be represented by different types of knowledge base as the main object of this study to build their knowledge networks. Using the GN algorithm in Ucinet6.0, we calculate the modular degree of the total network and draw the variant curve of the modular degree per year. Then, arranging the USPTO patent data from1976to2011in fields of servomechanism and gene targeting. We use the visual software, Pajek, to process the data, and obtain the evolution path for different types of knowledge bases and have a comparative analysis. The result shows that, there are several key modules in different kinds of Knowledge Bases. As for the forming paths, a series of technical progress follow a technological trajectory, and link with each other through key technologies. But they differ in the source of knowledge acquisition, the inventor of the innovation and the application of innovation, etc. Synthetic Knowledge Bases is more produced in firms, factories, workshops. It relies on application research more likely, and the scientists who own high-tech make enormous contributions. The type of innovation for Synthetic Knowledge Bases tends to the gradual change. While Analytical Knowledge Bases is more produced universities, research institutions and some in firms. It relies on basic scientific research more likely, and the scientists who own high scientific knowledge have very important influences. The type of innovation for Analytical Knowledge Bases tends to the radical breakthrough.Therefore, we should adopt the industrial modularization strategy firmly in the development of strategic emerging industries, timely adjust the direction of enterprise technology innovation in different technology field, and further promote the enterprise cooperation. At the same time, it is also important to effectively stimulate domestic demand, improve the infrastructure and service system to ensure the sustainable development of strategic emerging industries and regional economy.
