Deeply influenced by the western banking industry and limited by self-development, the reform of organizational structure has become a heated topic in the banking industry and relative research. The domestic banking industry has been exploring and improving the organizational structure of banking continuously. As a benchmark of the organizational structure forms of western banking,the divisional structure is becoming popular in practice,with increasing focus. The new organizational structure of banking also gets appraisal and affirmative channeling from the governmental financial surveillance department. However, at present the practice and exploration of divisional structure is mainly carried out by the adequately-developed large-sized domestic banks. As a branch of a medium-sized urban commercial bank,the Shenzhen branch of Bank of Guangzhou is on a trial stage of reforming its divisional structure as well, aiming to make breakthroughs from the bottleneck of its present development.Starting from the theoretical background of division and divisional structure, this thesis firstly introduces the theory path of development and characteristics of divisional structures of commercial banks and summarizes some experience of the reform of divisional structure from the aspects of organizational structures build-up and necessary elements of organizational restructuring. Secondly, the thesis takes Bank of Guangzhou as an example to describe the problems in its internal organizational structure and other relative influence and analyze the urgency of restructuring from its external competitive environment and its self-business development. What’s more, it analyses the practicability of restructuring from the aspects of strategic planning, operating pressure, reserve of talents and internal environment. Based on these, the thesis demonstrates the overall reform plan from six aspects such as organizational structure,human resources,operation process, financial management,performance appraisal and guarantee mechanism.Finally,it studies the problems, difficulties as well as its grantee measures in the process of practicing.The results of this research show that because of the professional advantage of divisional structure, it is likely to be the main trend of structure-reforming of the banks, and that whether an enterprise build the divisional system or not is closely related to its strategic interest and the relevant software and hardware conditions. This thesis comes to a discovery that the construction of the divisional structure is not the transformation of a single organizational structure, but part of the whole systematic reform of the bank. Because of the risks the medium and mini-sized banks may face in the reform, they can choose a small number of branches or business departments as trails by taking measures of steady progress so as to find the most suitable construction plan of its divisional structure based on the fundamentals. The problems such as a lack of overall adaptability,professional talents as well as effective motivate mechanism are still obstacles that domestic banks are facing. Meanwhile, this thesis demonstrates that the success of construction of divisional structure cannot be achieved in a short period of time. It requires the strictly following of the plans of enterprise ideological, architecture design as well as the support in talents, finance and material in order to promote a better and faster development of domestic banks.The research results will positively guide the divisional restructuring of domestic commercial banks,especially medium and mini-sized ones as well as offer choices to options of management and organization mode of other transforming domestic banks.
