Recent years, the construction of large hub airports and airport economic zones show a trend of rapid growth, but meet the unexpected effect in the aspect of promoting the transformation and upgrading of industrial structure and thus promoting the development of regional economic, because of the lack of attention on the study of the objective law between civil aviation and regional economy. On the basis of studying and summarizing the relevant literature at home and abroad, by studying the concepts of civil aviation and theory of the relationship between civil aviation and regional economy and theory of industrial structure, the paper study the relationship between civil aviation and regional economy in large aviation hub cities, with quantitative methods, and takes Beijing and Shanghai as case studies.Firstly, with the methods of Co-integration test, and Granger causes, the paper analysis the relation of linear equilibrium and Granger causality among the index series of air passenger/cargo throughput and GDP, and the results shows that Beijing and Shanghai share the same stable and balanced relationship between civil aviation and regional economy but that there are obvious differences in the causal relationship between them.Secondly, in order to the further analyze on the reason of these differences, taking the consideration of civil aviation’s economic benefits, civil aviation’s status and civil aviation’s effect to the regional industry system, the paper builds a research model on the effect of civil aviation to regional economy, a method system studying from the macro and micro dimensions. Finally, with the research model on the effect of civil aviation no regional economy, the paper uses input-output tables in2002and2007to calculate input output multipliers which tells the number and spatial distribution characteristics of the overall contribution of civil aviation to the national economy. And then, study status of civil aviation and feature and effect of the industry association between civil aviation and others, telling the law and differences of the effect of civil aviation to regional economy between Beijing and Shanghai. And then, taken all into consideration, the paper makes recommendations to government departments planning regional industry on how to play the role of the civil aviation in the economic development in large aviation hub cities.
