Research On The Regional Differences Of Urbanization Level In China

The urbanization level is an important index to measure the social and economic development of a country or region. The urbanization of China shows an unprecedented speed, the urbanization level have greatly improved since it opened to the outside world. The study about urbanization has become the focus attention of the academic circles. However, the research on regional differences of urbanization just got little attention, most of the papers existing focused on the analysis of the urbanization course and the relationship between urbanization and industrialization.In this paper, not only the urbanization level in various areas of our country is measured, but also the effect factors are analyzed by new methods. First of all, based on the literature review of a large number of papers researching the related literature of urbanization and the diversity of urbanization in various areas, this paper measured the urbanization level in various areas through many kinds of methods, such as the single index method and composite index method and so on. And then this study analyzed the present situation of regional urbanization level in details. Secondly, on the basis of the above analysis, by using Thayer index method, this paper made in-depth analysis of the margin of regional differences of urbanization level in our country, and discussed the composition and development trend of regional differences of urbanization level. Finally, using the factor-analysis and clustering-analysis, this paper analyzed the factors affecting the level of urbanization and puts forward the main factors affecting development and differentiation of the urbanization level respectively.This study gives advice for improving coordinate development of urbanization in various areas.This study found that the urbanization level is relatively lower at first in nearly10 years, the regional differences of urbanization displayed significant variation. With the speeding up of the course of urbanization in China, the urbanization level is continuously improved either, the differences of urbanization level displayed a significant reduction trend not only between provinces, but also in four major areas in eastern, central, western and northeast. From the perspective of affecting factors ofdifferences, it displayed a narrowing trend of the regional differences in the east middle and west areas, on contrast, the regiona differences in Northeast area increased slightly. For various areas, the regional differences are more significant than intra-regional differences, which show that China’s urbanization differences mainly embodied in regional differences. Combined with the actual situation of our country, the economic development in China’s eastern, central, western and northeast area influenced by national policy, resource endowment and the infrastructure construction so that a relatively stable economic zone is formed. With the enlargement of the regional differences, intra-regional differences are more significant than the regional difference after 2012. Interaction of intra-regional differences and regional differences throughout the whole process of the development of urbanization. They mutual impact on the regional differences of urbanization level in China. Urbanization is a complex systematic process so that the causes of urbanization differences are multifaceted. The affecting factors of urbanization varies according to the area, therefore, in order to select suitable patterns for different provinces and regions, this article tries to discuss and put forward some suggestions on the development of urbanization.
