A Comparative Study On The Coordination Degree Of City Development And Ecological Environment Between Kaifeng And Zhengzhou

City is the center of a regional political, economic, education, culture, science and technology, so the development of the city plays a leading and radiation effects on the regional development. With the rapidly development of economy, the level of city development increases rapidly, following a variety of ecological and environmental problems, which is a serious threat to the sustainable development of city and region. In view of this, the relationship between the city development and the ecological environment becomes more important. Kaifeng and Zhengzhou are the two cities of Henan Province, but there are significant differences between the development processes of the two cities. Kaifeng was an international metropolis in the history, but it was called “glory is as ephemeral as smoke and clouds” in the New York Times by American columnist Christof. Zhengzhou was a small town in the history, but it was developed into a metropolis with several million people in just a few decades. Different city development processes have different influences on the ecological environment; therefore, there is a vital significance to compare the two cities’ coordination between city development and the ecological environment.There is a great quantity of research about the relationship between the city development and ecological environment at home and abroad, and both theory and empirical research are abundant and mature. However, most of the related research at home and abroad is research on the macroscopically aspect. Most studies focus on the national, provincial, city group, and city domain scope, and there is a little research about the relationship between the city development and ecological environment of the urban area from the micro perspective. Based on the related theories and empirical research at home and abroad, this paper constructs the evaluation index system of the coordinated development between city development and ecological environment. By using the principal component, this paper analyses the condition of city development and the ecological environment of Kaifeng and Zhengzhou in recent twenty years(1993-2012) with quantitative analysis, qualitative evaluation and comprehensive comparison. Based on the quantitative analysis and qualitative evaluation, the paper analyses the degree of coordination between city development and the ecological environment of Kaifeng and Zhengzhou for twenty years by using the fuzzy membership coordination coefficient method, and then compares and evaluates the difference between thedegree of coordination of Kaifeng and Zhengzhou. The results show that: The development level of Zhengzhou is higher than Kaifeng, and the gap between Kaifeng and Zhengzhou is gradually widening; the ecological environment level of Kaifeng shows a rising trend, and the level of Zhengzhou shows a downward trend in recent years; whether in the coordination degree or in the total amount of the year, the coordination degree between city development and the ecological environment of Kaifeng is better than that of Zhengzhou.The thesis consists of 7 parts:The first part is the introduction; it mainly introduces the research background, significance of the coordinated development between city development and the ecological environment, expounds the origin of coordination thought and the connotation of coordinated development and coordination degree,summarizes the progress of related theories of coordinated development between city development and ecological environment as well as the domestic and foreign related research, and then introduces the main research content and the technical route of this paper.The second part mainly introduces the general situation of research area; it analyses and compares the conditions of city development and the ecological environment between Kaifeng and Zhengzhou.The third part introduces the establishment of index system and model.On the basis of previous studies, this paper establishes the evaluation index system of the coordinated development between city development and the ecological environment, which is consisted of city development subsystem and the ecological environment subsystem. City development subsystem mainly has 4 primary indicators(city economic indicators, city space, city social development index and the index of city residents’ life quality) and 19 secondary indicators;ecological environment subsystem mainly has 4 primary indicators(index of city environment status, city resources allocation index, city environmental pressure index and city environmental governance index) and 18 secondary indicators. This part also introduces the main research methods and models of this paper-- the method of principal component analysis and the fuzzy membership coordination coefficient method.The forth part mainly analyses and evaluates the condition of the two cities’ city development and the ecological environment; based on the establishment of the evaluation index system of the coordinated development between city development and the ecological environment, this partquantitatively analyses and evaluates the condition of city development and the ecological environment of Kaifeng and Zhengzhou for twenty years(1993-2012) by using statistics software SPSS. It also comparatively analyses the condition of the two cities’ city development and the ecological environment part by part.The fifth part mainly evaluates the coordination degree between city development and the ecological environment of the two cities. Based on the quantitative analysis and qualitative evaluation of the condition of the two cities’ city development and the ecological environment, this part measures the coordination degree between city development and the ecological environment of the two cities, and then compares and evaluates the difference between the degree of coordination of Kaifeng and Zhengzhou. The results show that: The coordination coefficient of Kaifeng is full of changes, and there are fifteen years in twenty years that the coordination condition of Kaifeng is coordinating and no severe disorders; the coordination coefficient of Zhengzhou is also full of twists and turns, and there are only thirteen years in twenty years that the coordination condition of Zhengzhou is coordinating and there are three years in severe disorder of the remaining 7 years. In general, the coordination degree of Kaifeng is better than Zhengzhou.The sixth part presents the influence factors of the coordination degree and corresponding countermeasures. This part analyzes the reasons for the change of the coordination degree in different periods for the two cities, and puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions according to the causes.The seventh part is the conclusion and the forecast. This part systematically expounds the main conclusion of the paper, analyzes the innovations and inadequacies of this paper, and puts forward the prospect of the next research.
