The Empirical Study On The Influence Of The Development Of Shanghai Port On The Optimization Of Industrial Structure In Shanghai

Shanghai Port has become a strong source of power for economic development in Shanghai due to the geographical advantages, the feature of obviously related industries. Because of that, Shanghai Port plays an important role in the development of the economy of Shanghai by driving the development of related sectors. By virtue of the unique resources of the Port, Shanghai put the port as the top priority of the economic development. According to the data add up by Shanghai Statistics Bureau, in the first three quarters 2014, the cargo throughput through Shanghai port had reached 517 million tons,6.9% of the amount of national. What is worth to mention is that the containerized cargo throughput reached 26.4475 million TEU which account 17.8% of the national total, ranking first in the country. Recently, port industry has become a dominant industry in shanghai for linking the carious sectors of the city. By the industrial relations and the ripple effect of the harbor, not only the development of tertiary industry related industries but the growing of primary and secondary industries in related industries are also promoted. Port industry plays a strong leading role for the economic development of Shanghai which becomes a focus of economic growth. This phenomenon helps to maintaining a healthy, orderly and sustainable development of economy.This essay will use the relationship between the Shanghai harbor and the industrial structure as object, discussing the influence of Shanghai industrial structure optimization by the development of port. In the aspect of qualitative analysis, theory of uneven development, related industries, industries spread and industrial optimization theory are studied. A Input-output table including the data of 43 departments of the port industry has been build which based on the input-output table of Shanghai in 2002 and 2007. In the field of quantitative analysis, by calculating direct consumption coefficient, complete consumption coefficient, direct distribution coefficient, the rate of intermediate inputs, intermediate demand rate, influence coefficient and sensitivity coefficient, analyzing the industry correlation effect and the ripple effect of Shanghai port systematically. Based on above, a optimization tips of the harbor and the structure of the economy of Shanghai is proposed.It can be found that, both the influence and sensitivity level of Shanghai harbor industry are higher than the average level of national economic sectors. Thus the development of the port industry is able to bring great pulling power and impetus to the various sectors of the national economy. At the same time, both the backward linkage ability and the intermediate input rate of Shanghai harbor are maintained at a high level. The shrinking of harbor could promote other departments effectively, especially the growing of high-end manufacturing, financial services and wholesale and retail trade and it could also improve the growth of structure of industry legitimately.
