Small and micro enterprises are the new force of the national economy, attention paid to which bears practical significance and contemporary value. Manufacturing is highly representative of small and micro enterprises, and the analysis of the growth and performance of it from the angle of sociology can broaden the theoretical perspective and yield abundant research results.The thesis adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods to study the growth of manufacturing; designs the enterprise growth evaluation scale and the affecting factors of the enterprise growth scale to build the overall research content;adopts methods of snowball sampling and accidental sampling to select the objects of study; conducts data collection through questionnaire interviews and obtains a total of53 samples for analysis.Research found that the majority of sample enterprises are micro enterprises with few employees and the time of establishment is not long; business owners are at their middle age with a a good level of education, and the majority of whom hold good expectations for enterprise development despite of the long working hour, high intensity and large working loads; the number of male employees exceeds that of female employees and both genders are with low level of education and high mobility, but the relationship between employees and employers is close and employers are quite satisfied with the work of employees; most business owners think the technological content of their products is not good enough, and products in the market not competitive enough; and the living environment, policy environment and organizational environment are not ideal for manufacturing.In the enterprise growth evaluation section, taking the description statistics and clustering analysis method. The study finds that the growth of of turnover and total fixed assets of enterprises to be significantly faster than the growth in the number of employees and the average annual net profit growth concentrating is not good. After the clustering analysis of the four relative indicators, it is found that enterprises with good growth are few, most enterprises have average business growth and some enterprises are at the state of growth stagnation or shrinking size.After the growth of the enterprise is evaluated, enterprise growth index is built through applying principal component analysis(PCA), revealing the growth scores of each enterprise to conduct relationship analysis of all affecting factors variables. The results of relationship analysis between enterprise growth and basic situation of business owners, basic situation of enterprise employees, approval status of business owners to the enterprise product and enterprise social and environmental situation show that thelevel of education of business owners, job content and expectations for enterprise development all have influence on the enterprise growth; the level of education of employees affects the enterprise growth; approval status of business owners to the technological content and market competitiveness of enterprise products have effect on the enterprise growth; and the state of enterprise survival environment and business growth is a significant negative correlation.On the whole, there are several issues of concern in the state of enterprise growth:small and micro enterprises serve as "incubator" for more small and micro enterprises, shouldering strong economic and social significance. Yet still small and micro enterprises are in poor growth, have poor living environment, policy environment,organizational environment.Small and micro enterprise owners are also stuck in the predicament of "multi-role survival".
