Energy efficiency benchmarking is a constant energy saving method, which knows gaps by comparing the plant data with the benchmarking data. The good index system is very important due to gap-mining easily; and evaluation methods is another key section for the energy saving reference feedback. Through the research on index system and evaluation methods of energy efficiency benchmarking, this article is aimed at be a support for the energy efficiency improvement in papermaking industries.Combined with the energy consumption analysis of papermaking industry and main papermaking plants in guangdong province, we designed the index system by the four steps, decomposing the total index by applying the “three sections”, choosing index by the methods of theoretical analysis and Delphi, building the structure with the AHP method and correcting by unit test and whole test. And give the index data range and calculation method too.The evaluation methods include two parts. we firstly design the index weight by combine the data and expert experience, which can satisfying the situation of index weight change by papermaking grades; and in the second part, we give out the methods that can help plant know their energy efficiency position of the whole benckmarking plants and the energy gap compared with the model plant by the gray relation degree and model relation degree respectively; then we show the next energy saving direction method by comprehensive of the improved degree.Lastly, a case application indicates that the index system and evaluation methods can help plant know their gaps and get tips to raise energy efficiency level.
