Research On Economic Integration Across The Taiwan Straits

Taiwan, because of its important economic status and geographic location, has such reputations as "Maritime Lifeline", "Throat of Asia Pacific", and "Unsinkable Aircraft Carrier". Taiwan affairs are of overall and strategic importance in the working of Chinese government, concerning the core benefits of China. To improve the cross-strait relationship and to settle and stabilize the situation across straits are not only the guarantee of the country’s intact benefits but also the important environment base of the economic, cultural and life contacts and exchanges of the people across the strait.Starting from the perspective of economic cooperation and exchange between local government in Jiangsu province and Taiwan, the paper incorporates the exchange into the context of national policy to Taiwan, economic globalization and exchange information network, trying to put forward the opinion of "Cross-strait Economic Integration". The key point of this paper focused on is that, how many necessity, importance and possibility of "Cross-strait Economic Integration"? What features possessed by the economy of Taiwan could be the complementary advantages and be combined with the economy of mainland? Around the economical exchange and development, what levels of development platform and environment can local governments build to strengthen exchange with Taiwan? Facing the situation across the Taiwan straits and the global economic situation, what problems may local governments encounter or what aspects should they pay attention to in the work of economic and cultural exchange with Taiwan? How to solve them? This paper will discuss the above issues.Aiming at the above core problems, the full text is divided into five chapters. In the introduction section, the writer explained the reason and research meaning of selecting the topic, summarized the existing references, and introduced this article’s research frame and method. The second chapter stated the modern history of the economic development of Taiwan, described the present situation of Taiwan economy, and looked on Taiwan economy comprehensively and developmentally through the Taiwan economic status, features and the analysis of advantages and disadvantages. The third chapter revealed the performance, comparison and trend of this region in economic exchange with Taiwan through the cases and data of Jiangsu’s economic exchange with Taiwan. The fourth chapter illustrated importance and significance of promoting "Cross-strait Economic Integration" that Taiwan cultural exchange have on deepening economic exchange in both places. The conception of the "Cross-strait Economic Integration" put forward in the fifth chapter has milestone significance to the integration of the cross-strait relationship.This paper thought that, under the beliefs of the cross straits sticking to building up mutual trust, putting aside the controversies for the time being, seeking common ground while reserving differences, creating double win for the two sides, we should study and have a profound understanding of Taiwan’s situations, and adopt a series of positive measures so as to facilitate the cross-strait economic and cultural exchanges, push forward the dialogue and negotiation between both sides, which are beneficial to improvement and development of the cross-strait relationship, and helpful to boost the process of the "Cross-strait Economic Integration". According to the thought of "easy first and hard later, economy first and policy later, keep the rhythm and step by step" of our country, local governments should actively construct economic and cultural environment, improve urban infrastructure moderately, and establish operation platforms to be beneficial of the exchange between both parties according to the policy of our country.The new conception in this paper lies in, trying to conduct quantitative analysis of Taiwan economic work by local cases and relevant data, so as to study exchange situation of cross-strait economic and cultural exchange, and then this paper concludes the necessity and probability of "Cross-strait Economic Integration", and it puts forward effective measures that the author thinks, and according to relevant cases and data, analyzing platform needed to establish and problems to be pay attention in the process of economic integration.
