An Empirical Study On Agglomeration,Regional Specialization And Structural Divergence In China’s Manufacturing Industry

At present, with the new round of technological revolution and industrial revolution, China accelerates the transformation of economic development mode. The pattern of international industrial division is remolding. On the one hand,manufacturing industry has been integrated with upgraded information technology in many ways, hence new ways of production, new formation of industry, new business model and new economic growth point are shaping; on the other hand, developed countries have implemented the "re-industrialization" strategy, reshaping the new global trade and investment in the new round of global trade. Today, China’s manufacturing industry is facing a severe challenge of the international "two-way extrusion" and the transformation and upgrading of China. It is urgent to actively participate in the global industry division and take on a new round of industry and capital transfer. Combined with spatial agglomeration and the change of structure differences, our industry should grasp the development principle of our manufacturing industry agglomeration and make the best use of the trend of industrial structure evolution.In this paper, we study the relationship of industry agglomeration and industrial structure evolution with statistics of manufacturing employed people in various provinces in 2000-2013. Based on analysis of multi-dimensional metrics comparison among industry agglomeration, regional specialization and structural trends, we discover the same trend among sector agglomeration, regional specialization and structural trends,on the other hand, reverse relations among regional agglomeration, regional specialization and structural trends. The study indicates that China’s manufacturing industry in gradually diffusion process still maintain a high degree of concentration of the industry, meantime it exists structural differences among regional manufacturing sector. Finally, according to China’s manufacturing agglomeration status and relationship, the paper provides policy recommendations to promote the rationalization development of China’s manufacturing industry.
