Agglomeration、Specialization And Industrial Structure Convergence

In recent years,driven by market forces and government policies,the industry ofour country have acquired continuous development and the manufacturing spatialdistribution appears shift to the economically backward trend from economicallydeveloped areas. Factors of production such as domestic funds,labor and talents haveemerged in the center of the city which have better conditions,affected by theelements of the benefits or reduce the principle of market economy conditions.Agglomeration occurs originally in the economically developed areas:Firstly,manufacturing enterprises are concentrated to the cities along the coast andtransportation routes regions; Secondly,factors of production and enterprise areconcentrated to the major urban centers;Thirdly,manufacturing enterprises graduallygather to the towns surrounding areas,so that form some centralized contiguous areas.Today,due to the international economic downturn,rising labor costs and many otherreasons,the survival of the manufacturing enterprises under attack,manymanufacturing companies have moved to the areas where have no high labor costsand the economy is relatively backward. The manufacturing of developed areasindustry may appear diffusely. The purpose of this paper is making empirical researchof China’s manufacturing industry agglomeration， regional specialization andconvergence of industrial structure and attempt to answer the following questions:The index which measure regional manufacturing industry agglomeration andregional specialization is desirable？Whether we can make improvements of theexisting common indicators? What is the China’s status of industrial agglomeration(area of specialization)? What are the main factors affecting the industrialagglomeration (area of specialization)?Whether the industrial agglomeration (area ofspecialization) are consisted with differences in industrial structure in changes?In this paper,the new economic geography theory is regarded as the theoreticalfoundation. learning from past domestic and international studies of industrialagglomeration， regional specialization and convergence of industrial structure,thenwe make some empirical analysis by using provincial data of China’s21manufacturing industry. The paper structure,the text is divided into five parts: Thefirst chapter is an introduction， which raises questions such as the desirable selection of index,And introduce this study theoretical and practical significance,the definitionand related theory. The second chapter is an review of industrial agglomeration (areaof specialization) index selection and application of impact factors,industrialagglomeration (areas of specialization) and convergence relations literature. The thirdchapter is comparing indicators including industrial agglomeration (area of specialization). this part of the main considerations is the space relative distance factor indexof industrial agglomeration and we improve it on the basis of in the Krugmancentralized index. Also we compare various indicators of the manufacturing sector asa whole and its sub-industry trend of industrial agglomeration,six regions andprovinces specialization trend. Chapter4discusses the possible influencing factors ofindustrial agglomeration (area of specialization),and select possible impact of thesefactors to do panel regression analysis,and identify the model inadequacies. The fifthchapter is compared with the industry trend of structural differences and explainrelationship between the convergence of industrial agglomeration (area ofspecialization).The innovation of this paper is that Some of the previous literature only directlyuse certain indicators,some literature is only a rough comparison of indicatorsbetween the advantages and disadvantages. In order to draw new conclusions,thispaper attempts to classify and organize the indicators,sort out their internal logic,andsystematic summary of the advantages and disadvantages of each indicator, and try topropose a new improved method of regional specialization and industryagglomeration indicators,and make analysis and comparison with the originalindicators.
