Industrial Agglomeration is that some industries concentrate in specific geographic space and is a world-wide phenomenon. Regional Specialization is the expressions of specialization production in geographic space. Empirical Studies have shown that Regional Specialization and Industry Agglomeration is a very significant trend in the process of industrialization. The central region of China, including Shanxi, Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei and Hunan, have been playing an important role in China's economic development.Three decades since reform and opening-up, the gap between the central region and estern coastal areas has been widened. The Chinese government proposed the "Rise of Central China" policy in 2004, and introduced a series of policies to support the development of central region. Industrial Aggolomeration and Regional Specialization is the appropriate path of the development of China, reference to the development experience of the United States.Comparing a series of indexes, such as Hoover specialization index, Krugman specialization index, average rate of industry concentration and industry spatial Gini index on the manufacturing industry among provinces between 2003 and 2007.We find that the indexes of Regional Specialization and Industrial Agglomeration in the Central Region of China have increased in different degrees, although these indexes still remained low. Then, we analyze the impact factors of Regional Specialization and Industrial Agglomeration based on the panel data of the manufacturing industry in Central Region of China between 1998 and 2007, which show that Central Region of China need to introduce more polices to promote Regional Specialization and Industrial Aggolomeration . |
