Land resources are essential material goods to human survival and they play extremely important roles in human life. In recent years, Shanxi Province has continuously speeded up the pace of urbanization and industrialization. The extensional urban development and the economic growth pattern of conventional high consumption make a lot of farmland shift to construction land. On the one hand, such land conversion causes excessive expansion of city scale in Shanxi, and makes the urban construction land area per capita go beyond the upper limit prescribed by the state, and the urban land utilization more extensive; on the other hand, such land conversion occupies some farmland especially cultivated land, reduces cultivated land per capita from 2.21 mu in 1997 to 1.78 mu in 2009, makes the quality of cultivated land obviously lower than the national average and threaten the grain output of Shanxi. In order to escape the constraints of land on the future urban development of Shanxi,it is imperative to solve the current problems of urban land utilization and choose the road of intensive development. In this case, to study the intensive utilization of city land in Shanxi and explore potentials of urban land has important practical significance. On the basis of reference of relevant theories and research results at home and abroad, the author had understanding of basic profile of prefecture-level cities in Shanxi. Besides, the author evaluated and comparatively analyzed intensive urban land utilization level of 11 prefecture-level cities in Shanxi Province. Besides, through the disorder degree diagnosis model, the author found out the main obstacle factors influencing the intensive land utilization of the prefecture-level cities. Finally, the author put forward some targeted optimizing countermeasures. The main research contents and conclusions are as follows:(1) By using the relevant research results of land intensive utilization at home and abroad for reference, the author selected 11 representative evaluation indexes from the aspects of the level of land input, land utilization degree, land outputefficiency and urban environment quality, and constructed evaluation index system. Moreover, by adopting the combined method of entropy and hierarchical analysis, the author determined index weight, and evaluated the status quo of the intensive land utilization of 11 prefecture-level cities in Shanxi Province through the method of TOPSIS.(2) Based on the evaluation of intensive land utilization of the prefecture-level cities, the author compared the evaluation results, and divided the urban land utilization into intensive type, moderate type and extensive type through hierarchical cluster analysis to get clear idea of the urban land utilization as a whole. Then, through the evaluation vale of sub-goal layer and index layer indexes between prefecture-level cities, the author compared the micro differences, found out the space differences of intensive land utilization factor for each prefecture-level city in Shanxi Province, and analyzed the factors causing the differences by combining with the actual situations.(3) The author selected disorder degree diagnosis model based on the index deviation degree, and measured and analyzed the main obstacle factors of each prefecture-level city in intensive land utilization from the perspective of intensive level and specific city. The author concluded that the low economic urban development level is the main obstacle factor restricting the intensive urban land utilization in Shanxi Province. On the basis of the obstacle factor diagnosis, the author further put forward some targeted countermeasures for optimizing the land utilization of each prefecture-level city do as to narrow the gap between regional cities and improve the regional intensive land utilization level as a whole.
