Research On The Linkage Between Science And Technology

With the increasingly fruitful basic research and the rapid change in high technology areas, science and technology refresh cycles gradually shortened. Consequently, the development of science and technology has stepped into a new era. Research on the linkage between science and technology is an effective way to strengthen the further cooperation of science and technology.This article is based on the perspective of academic inventors, who has published scientific papers and applied for at least one patent. The main basis is:papers always including the most forefront scientific knowledge as basic research findings, while patent is a major source of technical information which is used to protect intellectual property rights of new technology. Therefore, Paper activities and patent activity can stand for science and technology respectively, moreover, academic inventors are regarded as linkage between science and technology.Genetically Modified technology(GM) is a hot topic in recent years, so the article select papers and patents both related to GM as study objects. Firstly, compared publication counts and total cites of academic inventor and pure author who has only papers without patents to observe that patent activity is whether to have an influence on authors’academic productivity and academic impact. Then, social network analysis method was used to analyse the network of scientific communication and the network of technical communication, the main purpose is to estimate academic authors are at the hear of the two heterogeneous networks or not.The analysis revealed that academic inventors distributed in various sub-disciplines and focused on the various universities. Selecting three sub-disciplines and several universities for the study is to observe whether there is a law of the comparison of publication and total cites between academic authors and pure authors or pure inventors in different sub-disciplines and in different universities. Moreover, the location where academic authors live in the network of scientific communication and the network of technical communication in different sub-disciplines and in different universities was to be analyzed as well. In the end, the article give several recommendations for common characteristics and their characteristics according to different sub-disciplines and different universities.
