China is the largest developing country and the second largest energy consuming country in the world. Energy is necessities for the life of contemporary people and the original power to maintain the economy production. In recent years, as China’s economic development and the increasing process of urbanization, the proportion of energy consumption in the transportation sector is rising, and the task of reducing traffic energy consumption is strategic and urgent.To understand the status of China’s urban transportation energy consumption, analyze and predict the urban traffic energy consumption and decompose the main factors affecting energy consumption, explore reducing energy consumption decision support is the objective requirement of the sustainable development of the transportation industry, is the important content for the complete building of conservation oriented society. Therefore, it is very necessary to analyze the current situation of urban traffic energy consumption and to quantify the main factors influencing the energy consumption. Our country put forward that the volume of energy consumption of transport units in 2020 decreased by 11% respectively compared with 2012. This paper take Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, four municipalities directly under the central government as the object of study and involving of the railway, highway, water transport, aviation and pipeline transportation systems to explore the main strategy to achieve the goal of reducing consumption.First of all, combing the domestic and foreign research status of transportation energy consumption, recognize the concerns and the limitations of the study, and arrange the main impact factors of this study.Secondly, analyze of the current situation of traffic energy consumption in China’s four municipalities directly under the central government, use the LMDI index decomposition method to determine the contribution rate of the impact factor.Again, based on the main factors, use the method of system simulation, to simulate transportation system in Shanghai.Finally, according to the contribution of the core influencing factors and the simulation results of the system dynamics simulation model, this paper put forward the strategy of energy saving and consumption reduction in the aspects of transportation structure, energy consumption and so on.
