As the major contributor to the national economy, state-owned enterprises are facing the conflict between the profit mission and the public welfare mission in their reform and development. In recent years, under the influence of national policies, regulations and the world’s economic environment, the reform of state-owned enterprises is becoming more and more difficult. Work stress, not only affects the body and mind, reduces the work efficiency, but also cause the tension of the organizational environment, reduce the organizational effectiveness. As the backbone of the enterprise, middle-level managers are in charge of the implementation of grass-roots management, participating in the enterprise’s decision-making. They play a very important role in enterprises’ production, operation and development.This study is divided into four stages:The first stage includes the literature review, building a research model, and putting forward the research hypothesis.The second stage introduces the questionnaire survey of this research. The questionnaire selected the 52 middle-level managers in H enterprise as a sample, divided into work stressors scale and coping questionnaire. The questionnaire based on Cooper’s Occupational Stress Inventory(OSI-2), adjusted according to the actual situation of H enterprise, and the results of the previous interview.The third stage is the empirical study. SPSS 22.0 is used to do the descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, independent analysis, and difference analysis. Test the hypotheses based on data analysis result.The fourth stage covered the conclusions and recommendations. The conclusion formed according to the research results. According to the work stressors of the middle-level managers in H enterprise, put forward the management strategy of work stress for state-owned enterprises, from both organizational level and individual level.The main conclusions of this study were as followed:1. The overall work stress of middle-level managers in state-owned enterprises is above a moderate level.2. The work stressors of middle-level managers in state-owned enterprises, includes task requirements, work environment, work responsibilities, organizational mechanism and atmosphere, social factors and career development. Among them, the most important work stressors are social factors, task requirements and work responsibilities.3. There are significant differences in the demographic variables for work stressors of middle-level managers in state-owned enterprises, such as age, education background, and so on. But there’re no gender differences.Through the analysis of work stress for middle-level managers in state-owned enterprise, this study put forward a systematic stress management system to alleviate the negative effect of it, provided the basis for effective human resource management for state-owned enterprises.
