In recent years,China's construction industry has developed rapidly, however, the practitioners have endured great pressure because of the constantly accelerating pace of life and the increasingly fierce competition in the construction industry.According to 2015 China Statistical Yearbook Data, the number of practitioners in China's construction sector reached 50.03 millions, accounting for 6.46% of the total social employment. For such a large number of practitioners,to explore the pressure of employees and its impact on healthy development of the construction industry were of great importance.Excessive work stress would lead to the decreasing performance of organization members, lower work enthusiasm, negative attitudes, etc. So the high work stress on construction industry staff would affect the project performance.Unfortunately, opposed to its importance, the study for the work stress of construction practitioners is still relatively less compared with its importance.Three main objectives were set in this paper based on literatures review and empirical analysis with questionnaire and interview, which were listed as:(1)identifying the key origin of work stress and differences of work stress origin on different type of construction practitioners(ages, gender and major);(2)analyzing the influence on work stress level caused by different origin of work stress;(3)exploring the influence of work stress level on the performance of the project.According to these studies, the conceptual model of work stress origin-work stress level-work stress influence was constructed, which could be used to understand the effect of work stress level on the performance of the specific project. Then it could provide the theoretical reference for positive and effective development of the work stress management. This assay was consisted of six parts. The first part was the introduction of this research. The research topic, research significance, research purpose, research method and the basic frame of a research thesis are determined by various related literatures. The second part introduces the theory about work stress and project performance and puts forward the research emphasis and direction of.Thirdly, the main words are about theoretical conception and research hypothesis.Based on the contents of the related reviews, the theoretical model and the main assumptions of this research were constructed.Fourthly, the questionnaire survey and data are analyzed. The introduction of SPSS22.0 software can help to examine the reliability and validity of the questionnaire survey results. And also the factor analysis, descriptive analysis and correlation analysis could be processed by thismethod.Fifthly, there was an interview for 21 construction practitioners. The results of the questionnaire survey were verified through this part of the work. Finally, conclusion and prospect for this research were made.It briefly displayed the main conclusions shortcomings and future research direction.Totally,in the process of research,175 questionnaires were returned,of which 83.4%were valid.Through the statistical analysis and comprehensive analysis on interview results, the main conclusions are as follows:(1)Construction practitioners' key work stress origin and differences of work stress origin on different person(ages, gender and major)Based on the factor analysis, the origin of pressure of construction practitioners was from six parts: project requirement, career development, interpersonal relationship, organizational atmosphere, work requirement and work environment.Among them, the project requirement is the most important origin of work stress. There are significant differences in gender, age and major to work stress on construction practitioners. In terms of project requirement, managers who age was between 41-50 had endured the highest pressure. For work requirement, work stress on the male was higher than it on the female. And in the aspect of the work environment, male technicians are the most stressful.(2)The impact of different work stress origin on the work stress levelThe job requirement(0.439 **),working environment(0.416 **),interpersonal relationship(0.195 *),organizational climate(0.184 *)and project requirement(0.173 *)would have a significant positive impact on personnel work stress level.Construction practitioners would have a higher work stress level.(3)The influence of the work stress level on the project performance and the evaluation indexThe work stress level had a significant negative impact on project performance(-0.190*),which was embodied in two aspects: quality(-0.179 *)and cost(-0.180 *).Poor quality of project performance and bad cost control would occur resulted from the higher level of work stress. In this assay, the relationship among work stress origin, work stress and project performance was studied by empirical analysis and some important conclusions was acquired. However, with the limitation of diverse factors, there are still some shortcomings in this research. For example, samples collected had geographical limitations. Some further improvement should be taken in work stress evaluation indicators. In the future research,we could expand the scope of the research area and compare the difference of the workstress of construction practitioners between different regions, which could be taken to ensure that the research results more comprehensive and extensive.
