As the largest economic zone of China, Yangtze River Economic Belt has played a key role in promoting the economy of China, which has risen to national strategies. Being an important form of regional economic organization, industrial clustering can achieve economies of scale, produce economic benefits. It is necessary to rely on industrial clustering to accelerate the development of the Yangtze River economic belt. However, excessive agglomeration may reduce the economic benefits, and appropriate agglomeration has become an important driving force for economic growth. Therefore it has great significance for the study of Yangtze River economic belt manufacturing industry agglomeration level and moderation.Based on 2002-2013 panel data of manufacturing industries in Yangtze River Economic Belt, using EG index and industry concentration from time and space dimensions, this paper analyzes manufacturing industry sector agglomeration and agglomeration spatial distribution systematically by. From a theories review, concepts of industrial Agglomeration Suitability and Agglomeration Excessive are summarized. Then, this paper measures the comprehensive scale index of the Yangtze River Economic Belt for sixteen industries with high level agglomeration through a series of input and output indicators and uses polynomial fitting trend figure of the comprehensive index scale and profit to judge its suitability. As a result, the manufacturing industries can be divided into excessive agglomeration industry, appropriate agglomeration industry and promising agglomeration industry and the excessive region of excessive agglomeration industries are judged with the help of DEA model.Through the above research, this paper gets the following conclusions: First, as a whole, the manufacturing overall degree of concentration is high in Yangtze River Economic Belt, but it has inverted u-shaped curve characteristics during the study period. Industry concentration degree has appeared the turning point and diseconomy phenomena of agglomeration have appeared. Secondly, from the sub-industry perspective, the agglomeration phenomenon is very obvious in the Yangtze River economic belt and about eighty percent manufacturing industries are in the high concentration level. But the degree of concentration in most industries has entered the decline stage of the inverted u-shaped curve. The manufacturing industries mainly concentrate in the downstream economic zone such as Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. Thirdly, by analysis on the Yangtze River Economic Belt sixteen industries with high level agglomeration,we found that more than half industries belong to the cluster industry and they are mainly some capital intensive and technology intensive industry. Some industries such as tobacco products industry, chemical fiber, transportation equipment manufacturing and instrumentation and cultural office machinery manufacturing industry are appropriate. Textile industry in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, general equipment manufacturing industry in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, communication equipment, computers and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry in Shanghai are excessive. Fourthly, based on the characters of the different types of manufacturing industries, some suggestions are proposed for further development. Technology innovation, industrial value chain extension and policy supporting can achieve industrial upgrading, Bring new profit growth point and gathering space for the appropriate agglomeration industries. Furthermore, for growing agglomeration industries, the paper puts forward the model of agglomeration forewarning based on DEA.
