Employment composition is one of the realistic foundations and directly reflections of ethnical economic capability and social status. In the native, mixed and assembled multi-ethnic region, the differences of employment compositions in ethnic groups has multiple meanings for making accurate and precise regional developing policies. However, the academic community just starts to basic research on employment compositions in ethnic groups. The study puts the Dali Prefecture that is a typical multi-ethnic region as the research object. Basing on the fifth, sixth census date, the paper depicts the present situation and differences of the employment structure from the perspective of industries, occupation of Han, Bai, Yi, Hui, Lisu in Dali prefecture and their changes between 2000 year and 2010 year by three measurement indexes of the ethnic employment intensity, the number of departing and the degree of deviation. According, it will contrast the ethnic employment composition with Dali and other areas. The study finds that the difference of employment composition among the five nations is very large. Going to high-end in the industry, occupation systems, the advantage of employment of Hui is more obvious, on the contrary, the disadvantage of employment of Yi and Lisu are also more obvious. And employment composition of Han is slightly better than average level of distribution of the employed population in Dali, and Bai’s is slightly lower than that. In the case of proving the existence of significant differences of employment composition among Han, Bai, Yi, Hui, Lisu, the study attempts from the geographical distribution, the population structure, the culture and education, the historical tradition to explore the reasons of the differences utilizing related theories of ethnology and economics, and finds the four factors have a great impact on the status of employment of the major nations through empirical analysis and literature research. Moreover, the interaction of these factors with employment composition is indeed importance for development of ethnic region.
