In this paper, the economic of Erhai region in the Qing Dynasty is streamlined. Erhai region is a multi-ethnic and mountainous region where Bai ethnic minority dominates and a few Bazi (small basins) exists. Like many other places, Erhai region’s economic development entered a new stage in Qing Dynasty. Erhai region in this period consists of Dali Fu, Menghua Fu and Heqing Fu.Chapter Ⅰ mainly describes the natural, geographical environment of Erhai region and the economic development of Erhai region before Qing Dynasty. Erhai region is located in the northwest of Yunnan where altitude is high in the northwest and low in the southeast. Erhai region has diversified landscape, including 9 basins and many mountains, constituting the main natural and geographical factors in developing Erhai region. Erhai region has been the center of Yunnan since the Tang and Song Dynasties, and its social and economic development led other regions in Yunnan.Chapter Ⅱ introduces the development of agriculture in Erhai region. In Qing Dynasty, Erhai region saw considerable arable lands and water conservancy projects driven by social stability and mass immigration. Agricultural development included growth in diversities of crops, and improvements of production technologies.Chapter Ⅲ mainly describes the development of mining industry in Erhai region. Salt and mining industry witnessed rapid development in Qing Dynasty, flourishing the commerce, tax revenue and regional economic development in Erhai region.Chapter IV discusses the development of commerce in Erhai region. Through commerce, Erhai region increased economic exchanges with and built more connections to other regions. Erhai region achieved sustainable development by expanding presence in the market.
