With the development of market economy in our country, retail industry got the unprecedented development, but the downward trend of our country’s economic became more and more obvious since 2012 due to the financial crisis. Large retail stores began to slump, small convenience store chain began to develop rapidly and became the most vitality of a new retail format after the supermarket. Convenience stores have a direct connection with not only the economic development level, also consumption habits and way of life have a direct link. For example, Western Europe, because of the different way of life, their convenience store development degree just behind Japan, the United States and China’s Taiwan. The convenience store format are quite mature and become the mainstream of the retail business in developed countries (regions). Compared with the developed countries (regions), China has many problems in the development of convenience store because of the short history. In some developed cities such as Shanghai and Beijing in China, the reason why so many people love the convenience store not only because they layout in the business district, hospitals, street, but also they open 24 hours a day and provide fast food. In some second-tier cities in our country, the development of convenience stores and the acceptance is relatively weak. Such as Wuhan, although its economic development level is higher, the flow of people is bigger, the business area is intensive, the development of convenience store are not very good. There had some retail enterprises tried to develop the market of WuHan, but they did not get satisfactory result ultimately. We still need to continue to explore the road of sustainable profitability of convenience store chain in Wuhan, making it have its own characteristics and becoming acceptable in consumers. Convenience store chain is mainly divided into traditional convenience store and gas station convenience store, this paper mainly discusses the traditional convenience stores in our country.This paper not only analyzes the gap between China and Japan in the development of convenience store chain, overlooking the prospects and market capacity of the development of China’s convenience stores paying attention to important points and beginning on small place; Also analyzes the development gap of convenience stores between Wuhan and the first-tier city Shanghai, providing some development proposals for convenience stores of Wuhan.This paper not only analyze Wuhan market from the macro environment factors, such as political environment, economic environment, social environment, technological environment, also discusses the advantages, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Wuhan market by using PEST analysis and SWOT analysis method. finally putting forward some suggestions for the development of convenience store chain in Wuhan based on convenience store chain settled in Wuhan should be introduced into the brand positioning in the lead time.
