As one of the most important core competitiveness of one company, human resource is the key point to win the competitive advantage under such a highly competitive market. The middle manager is the backbone force of one organization and they play a really critical role in the daily running and management. Without exaggeration, one company’s further development depends on the middle manager’s competency. The competency model is a famous method of the human resource management, which works on human resource planning, recruitment and allocation, training, and performance management.With the innovation and development of information technology, almost every industry has connected to the internet. And almost every side of our daily life can be finished through the internet. The rise of internet company also make a great contribution to the whole society’s improvement. As the internet increases tremendously, it also is a great challenge to the classical management theory and method. However, there is rare research on the middle manger’s competency of the internet company. It’s urgent and necessary to rethink the classical competency model, so we can apply it under the new business situation.Taking 10 internet companies as example, this paper built a competency model for the internet company through the Behavioral Event Interview, SPSS and SEM. It also used the questionnaire and expert panel as a complement. This model includes 4 dimensions, internet thinking, virtual team management, the ability to integrate resources and personal trait, and 20 specific factors. It provides the internet company an effective way to do human resource management work, especially for the middle managers. Meanwhile, the conclusion of this research also provides the traditional industry a reliable theory basis. With this, they can be more effective during the human resource work, especially in the internet era.
