Since "reform and opening-up", the achievement of the nation’s modernization is remarkable. Although the economy is increasingly grows, the economic development pattern which is led by traditional industralization and motivated by exports and investments shows its flaws. This situation is the reason of the imbalance between economy, social development and regional economy. More worse, the situation also causes the lack of domestic demand as well as sustainable development.No matter the Asian financial crisis or the global financial crisis, whenever confronting economic downturn, our government puts more emphasis on urbanization.As a consequence, urbanization plays a very crucial role both in the economic development and modernization of China.There are two major functions of the urbanization: First of all, it significantly motives the recovery of economy and lifts the economy to a higher level at a smoothing pace; Last but not the least, urbanization is also the motivation of domestic demand increase and economic restructuring, especially when China is in the special period of transferring its focus on domestic demand rather than previously focusing on exporting business.This research will discuss the urbanization of Shanxi Province since it is a traditional industrial city which is with rich natural resources and did momentous contribution to the country in the past.Currently, the development of urbanization is rapid and unstoppable, however the problems and shortcomings of the urbanization of Shanxi cannot be ignored. This is because those problems and defects gravely hinder the further development of urbanization itself in ShanxiProvince.Considering the vital role played by Shanxi Province in the overall development of China, detecting the problems of the urbanization of Shanxi, coming up with the corresponding strategies and solutions and then probing and discovering an advanced path which distinguished from the old path to the urbanization are the three necessary requirements of making Shanxi realize its rise of central China. This essay is based on the achievements of other researches which study on the urbanization of China and the background of this essay is regarding to the “New Four Modernization” as well as people oriented which were proposed in 18 th CPC National Congress and its following congresses. Furthermore, this essay starts with the current urbanization development and its problems in ShanxiProvince and concludes with advanced and appropriate suggestions, strategies and solutions which are customized to the practical condition of Shanxi in its way to realize urbanization.
