The current world is in an innovation-intensive and standard-dominant era with the coupling of technology innovation and the standardization being the key factor for the global competitiveness of an industry or a product. The vehicle manufacturing industry in China is undergoing the crucial transformation from importing technology to innovating technology, which has significant influence on the global competitiveness of China’s vehicle manufacturing industry. Therefore, it is the top priority to figure out how to accelerate the speed of turning the scientific results into productivity through enhancing the coordination between technology innovation and standardization, so that to improve the global competitiveness of China’s vehicle manufacturing industry.This paper focuses on the accelerating effect of the coupling between technology innovation and standardization on the global competitiveness of an industry. In terms of the theory study, this paper figures out the influence paths of the technology innovation and standardization on global competitiveness separately, namely, the reduction of cost, the improvement of quality and the enhancement of efficiency brought by the technology innovation, and the scale economy, the decrease of transaction cost and the mediation on international market orders. Meanwhile, this paper also analyzes the coupling theory between the technology innovation and standardization, indicating that the technology innovation influences standardization through boosting the production of new standards, pushing forward the standardization process and advancing the standard content, and that the standardization effects the technology innovation by providing the key information and directions and promoting the transformation from scientific results to products. Only by patenting the innovative technology, standardizing the patents and industrializing the standards, can the industry achieve continuous expansion, obtain the leading advantage in technology, improve its global competitiveness and form an accelerating effect in the back and forth influence between the technology innovation and standardization. In terms of the empirical study, the assessment index system of the technology innovation and the standardization is established and the ranking of each index is determined with AHP method based on the references analysis. The coupling degree is worked out by calculating all the indexes according to the coupling formulation, based on which, the BP neural network model of the technology innovation, standardization and their coupling degree on the global competitiveness is set. By setting a 20% increase of each index, the contribution of each index to the global competitiveness is figured out, which indicates that the most obvious effecting factors are the coupling degree, the number of standards and the number of patents. However, the coupling degree of the technology innovation and standardization has been in the weak stage, ranging from 0.1 to around 0.4. Therefore, this paper offers some constructive suggestions such as the coupling development of their strategies and systems, constructing strategic alliance, and nurturing the talents with the knowledge of technology, patents and standards.
