Being the intersection of water and land transportation, port plays a significant role in the development of commercial trade and economy. Moreover, Guangzhou Port, one of the largest ports in China, is an important port in South China, which has made a great contribution to domestic and international trade. Guangzhou Port is also an essential hub of integrated transportation system in China, which undertakes the great mission of transporting goods of domestic and international trade.Guangzhou Port consists of Inner Port, Huangpu Port, Xinsha Port and Nansha Port; they enjoy the different development stage, characteristic and core competitiveness, which accounts for the diversified development of Guangzhou Port. However, nowadays Guangzhou Port is facing the critical period of development. On one hand, guided by the policy of deepening the reform and changing the mode of economic growth, influenced by its own development stage, Guangzhou Port is confronted with transformation and upgrading; On the other hand, as each port shares the similar hinterland and market, the phenomenon of vicious competition and the lack of resource optimization still exists. In addition, the proposal of "One Belt and One Road" stimulates the shipping commercial largely, which is quite an important opportunity to Guangzhou Port. Therefore, it is necessary for Guangzhou Port to seize the opportunity and learn each port’s core competitiveness specifically, as well as give impetus to the competition and cooperation between every port, only in this way can the development scale and sustainable development ability of Guangzhou Port can be improved. Therefore, this thesis researched on papers about competitiveness and co-opetition of port, and the theory concerned firstly. Secondly, the thesis specifically analyzed the development status of Guangzhou Port and its four ports region, and the used the theory concerned to analyze the transformation and upgrading situation of Guangzhou Port, as well as its development opportunity. Thirdly, the thesis built a reasonable evaluation system, and then used matter element model to evaluate the two-dimensional sustainable competitiveness of each port, which has illustrated each port’s core competitiveness clearly. Fourthly, based on the former research, the thesis researched and analyzed the co-opetition strategies between each port through "Population Ecology", and then used Matlab to simulate the development of the ports. The results indicate that, concerning each port’s different characteristic, the cooperation based on competition makes great promotion of Guangzhou Port’s development. However, the degree of cooperation has a best value instead of being higher is better. Eventually, thesis put forward several strategies and methods to improve the development of Guangzhou Port according to the results of the research.
