With the development of economy, science and improvement of people’s livelihood, there is a sharp increase in demand of electronic products of computing, telecommunications and consumer, a shift of people’s consumption tendency from single to personalized and a quick update of product. High diversity and high frequency of demand change becomes the major feature of electronic manufacturers. WIP inventory management, as the key link of enterprise management, has impact on the three core indicators: cost, quality and delivery. Generally electronic manufacturers face the problem of high WIP inventory, which not only stretches staff, extends production lead time and brings quality risk, but also causes inventory backlog and scrap due to incorrect forecast of customer demand and lower the enterprise’s profitability.T Company is a joint venture specializing in manufacturing printed circuit board and owning up-to-date PCB equipment, excellent technical personnel and worldwide marketing network. Taking high mix, low volume and high added value as its product positioning, T Company has a fully-loaded production line. However, T Company has not yet conducted in-depth research and control on its WIP inventory management. As a result, the Company’s core competitiveness is negatively impact by high inventory, long production lead time and poor planning flexibility.This paper, takes WIP inventory management of T Company as research object, based on the objective condition of process flow and production feature of PCB as well as the production control system and plant layout of T Company, analyzing the composition and management status of WIP inventory, concludes that imbalance of production line and push production are the major problems which impact WIP inventory management. Enhances capacity of bottleneck processes by utilizing the tools industrial engineering process analysis and concurrent engineering and job engineering and optimizes production planning by establishing pull production mode, thus effectively reducing WIP inventory.By analyzing and improving the WIP inventory management problems of T Company, provides a feasible solution of improving balance rate of production line, shortening production lead time, enhancing production flexibility and reducing WIP inventory.
