In recent years, there were more and more NIMBY events caused by the planning, design, construction and operation of the large-scale project. NIMBY events were always related to the changes of lifestyle and condition of aborigines. However, there were not enough researches of the impact on the survival lifestyle and condition of aborigines under the project interventions in the current social assessment model. As a result, the model couldn’t truly reflect the impact of the large-scale project on the aborigines so that it couldn’t provide the basis for government decision-making and it couldn’t play a role in resolving social conflicts. Therefore, to clarify the actual impact and benefit of large-scale project on the survival lifestyle and condition of aborigines had important signifiCance. This paper studied the aborigines under the project interventions from the perspective of survival lifestyle and condition. It could not only help us understand aborigines’ current living condition, but also help promote common development between the large-scale project and aborigines.Based on the case of the Gangkouwan Reservoir, this paper examined the factors of employment status, incoming, consumption behavior, leisure behavior, living way and social security status. The method combined literature research, questionnaire survey, case interview and the comparison for experimental group and the control group, with the aim to figure out the actual impacts, the cause of the changes and related factors. The results showed that Gangkouwan Reservoir had a significant influence on the lifestyle of aborigines. The project produced both positive and negative influence on the lifestyles, depending on the specific resettlement plan. Through the comparative study of different resettlement modes, the paper concluded that aborigines who relocated from the previous sites backward to new sites suffered the biggest loss. In addition, the type of village and the education level also affected the changes of lifestyle. This study revealed the impact of large-scale project on employment status, incoming, consumption behavior, leisure behavior, living way and social security status which made up for the deficiency of the domestic social evaluation in the field of aborigines research. The findings could provide a effective framework for evaluating the project of similar characteristics and some suggestions for resettlement policy for aborigines in the future.
