Research On Determinants Of Industry Selection When Shaanxi Migrant Workers In Cities Returning Home To Start A Business

After the financial crisis of 2008, there was a trend that migrant workers return to their hometown to start a business. This movement has strategic importance for promoting the development of economy in China’s undeveloped areas, promoting employment and improving livelihood. Shaanxi Province outputs a lot of labor every year and has a trend that migrant workers in cities returning home to start a business, while few scholars care about the development of the entrepreneurship of those migrant workers. This paper attempts to explore the factors which affect the industry selection of the Shaanxi migrant workers who return home for entrepreneurship.Learning from the strategic management of environment analysis theory,and combing the domestic and foreign existing research on entrepreneurship,we know that the industry selection of the migrant workers is influenced by the entrepreneurs themselves and the external factors. Using personality theory and resource theory as system theory, for onstruction of individual entrepreneurs,entrepreneurial resources and entrepreneurial environment influence migrant workers industry selection model. In order to collect first-hand data, we do a questionnaire survey of 117 migrant workers in Shaanxi province entrepreneurs.Using multiple logistic regression method test model, we find that the gender of migrant workers entrepreneurs, risk propensity, self-efficacy, and previous experience has significant influence on industry selection, but age, education background and source control of influence do not have remarkable influence;the financial capital, social capital has significant effect, but physical capital does not have a significant impact; technology environment, policy environment, market environment and infrastructure conditions has great impact on the industry selection in the early stage but capital environmental impact is not significant.Hereby, this paper puts forward the respect for the individual difference of peasant workers entrepreneurs, enriches social capital of the migrant workers and using a variety of measures to the optimize the entrepreneurial environment when directing the industry selection of themigrant workers who return home to start business.The innovation of this paper lies in putting strategic management theory in migrant workers entrepreneurship research, expanding the scope of the use of strategic management theory.
