Research And Developmemt Of Integrated Atlas Compilation System

As a compilation of series maps reflecting basic geographic information,special subjects or professional achievements,atlas is an important part of the socialized application of surveying and mapping information.The traditional atlas compilation requires workers to have solid professional knowledge,ability to use a variety of cartography software to draft cross platform,at the same time,it is necessary to collect a large amount of spatial data and thematic statistical data,design atlas style according to the purpose of it,and then do a lot of data processing work,the production process is complex,the work efficiency is low.Therefore,it has important practical significance to research and improve the integrated atlas compilation system with GIS technology,in order to provide a technical support platform for atlas compilation,and to improve the efficiency of cartography and the ability and level of geographic information service.At present,domestic and foreign scholars attach much attention on atlas compilation technology,but these relative researches just involving a certain part of atlas production normally,the onerous work in atlas compiled is still needed to be done manually.Some cartography products may focus on the graphics drawing while in the aspects of map decoration is not just as user's wish,such as CAD related products.Some of them emphasis on artistic effect but unable to handle geographic information,like software such as Coreldraw.Others are too professional to operation,and are very expensive,such as Microstation series professional map publishing software.So based on the existing cartography system,some problems of the atlas compilation process was further researched,and then preliminary design and build an integrated atlas compilation system,it can initially satisfy mapping work on a single platform,enhance the efficiency of atlas compilation on a certain extent.The main work and results of this paper are:(1)Doing user survey,requirement analysis and functional design for construction goal of Integrated Atlas Compilation System based on four aspects those are involved in the compilation of atlas — format design,map decoration design,spatial data symbolization and thematic elements visualization.(2)Research and solved four major problems in the process of atlas compilation preliminarily,those are automatic matching of thematic statistical data and geographical factors,standardization of thematic statistical data,visual representation of the thematic statistical data,conflict handling of thematic elements.(3)Designed the logical structure of the integrated atlas compilation system,and build a system based on C# language and ArcGIS Engine method.The rapid compilation of atlas is realized preliminarily,and the quality of compiling maps has been improved to a certain extent.(4)Collect and sort out the basic data which can be used for testing the system,the spatial data are derived from the basic geographic information of Sichuan Province which include administrative divisions,road networks and river systems.Then test the function of the system and produce a sample atlas product.
