As an high-precision and high-efficiency machining tool, double disk grinder has some prominent merits, such as small clamping deformation, small machining error, high production efficiency,etc. The grinder has been widely used to realize the grinding of the double sides of piston rings, bearings and valves. The designment and researchment of double disc grinder developed rapidly in China, but the precision of the machine tool is not high enough. Due to the characteristics of high hardness materials, large grinding force and high precision, end face processing of large size and high precision rolling bearing ring is mainly relied on imported machine tool. Therefore, this paper started with theory research, made an deeply and systematically investigation of the designment of high precision vertical double disc grinder. The major contents and conclusions of this article are as follows.Introduced the development history, research status and the domestic development of double disc grinder. Pointed out that the existing products on the market is difficult to complete the processing of the end face of large size and high precision rolling bearing ring.Proposed the subject of designing an special vertical double disc grinder.Starting from the processing theory error, enact the machine specifications, design parameters and the type of machine. Finally determined the structure scheme of the main parts of the machine and the overall layout by making analysis and comparison of modes of the support of the spindle, spindle feeding, dressing and cooling,etc.According to the design parameters and requirements, made a structure designment of the spindle system. The supporting of spindle and load-off structure are introduced in detail. Made calculations of the fatigue life of spindle bearings, the consumption and life of lubricant. Made modal analysis of the spindle system by using the finite element method. And the results verified the dynamic performance of the spindle system.Regarded the topography of the upper wheel working surface as the research object, established the mathematical model of grinding wheel surface topography, made an analysis of the effects of surface topography on the distribution of machining allowance in grinding region. The experiment results verified the theoretical analysis. Based on the theoretical analysis, the layout and structure parameters of dressing part are determined. The structure of the dressing is introduced in detail.Made an stiffness analysis of the dressing part with ANSYS,and the results verified the rationality of the structure.Introduced the main movement and grinding parameters of vertical double disc grinder, derived the calculation formula of the feed speed. Calculated the load of the feeding component, designed the structure of the feeding component in detail,set a safety spring to protect the motor, the maximum pressure of the designed spring and the stiffness is calculated.The designment and reserchment in this paper can provide some theoretical basis of designing vertical double disc grinder, and have some reference value on the selection of double disc grinder scheme, layout, dressing device and optimization of machine tool structure.
