Turning centers and turning-milling combined centers have been widely used in aerospace, aviation, shipbuilding, power generation and other important areas. Power servo turret is one of the important functional components in these machining centers and its performance will directly affect the final machining accuracy and efficiency for the machining centers. This paper is associated with "High-Grade CNC Machine Tools and Basic Manufacturing Equipment" technology major project on "Dynamic Reliability and Reliability Sensitivity of the Power Servo Turret Design and Test Technology", and it presents a research on a power servo turret made by Shenyang Machine Tool Group. The static and dynamic characteristics for the gear transmission system in Power Module which belongs to the turret are studied in the paper. There are some theoretical significance and practical value for improving the level of designing Power servo Turret through the research. The main works as follows in the paper:(1) Studying the internal excitation generating mechanism for the gear meshing, summarizing the common gear vibration analysis model and studying the principles for tooth profile modification and tooth trace modification, and how to determine the relevant modification parameters.(2) Establishing a virtual prototype model for the gear transmission system in power module, and conducting static analysis on it for ensuring the system safe and reliable. The static analysis includes the displacement for shafts, the analysis on the strength for gears, and calculating the meshing misalignment for gears.(3) Gear modification is one of effective measures for reducing the gear meshing vibration and increasing its carrying capacity. Taking the first stage spur gear pair as an example and based on the contact analysis module in Kisssoft, three kinds of gear modification schemes are compared and analyzed by transmission error, the results for FFT of transmission error, the size and distribution for the contact stress and the line load, and the best gear modification for the example is determined at the last.(4) It is necessary to analyze the resonance for the gear transmission system in Power Module, except for reducing the gear meshing vibration by gear modification. The modal analysis for the gear transmission system is carried on by the Romax software, and the natural frequencies and mode shapes are calculated and analyzed. The resonance RPMs are found by comparing the natural frequencies with the frequencies for the meshing gears and the rotation shafts in common RPMS. In the final the dynamic response at each bearing in Power Module are calculated, which excited by the gear transmission error.The research work in the paper lays the foundation to further master the dynamic characteristic for Power Servo Turret and improve the designing level for Power Servo Turret.
