As a new-type,high-efficiency and high-performance tool,waved-edge milling cutter has the advantages of low milling force,good wear resistance,good machining stability,good chip-splitting effect and high machining efficiency.Accordingly,it is widely used in the field of rough machining.Because the uniqueness and complexity of the structure of waved-edge,there are few researches on the indexable waved-edge milling inserts in China.This paper take waved-edge milling inserts as the researching subject,and the theoretical analysis and experimental research on milling mechanism of waved-edge milling inserts is carried out from the aspects of milling force,chip morphology,milling vibration and tool wear.Firstly,the milling mechanism and stress characteristics of waved-edge milling inserts are studied theoretically.The mathematical model of milling force and dynamic model of milling process is built.Secondly,the influence of milling parameters on milling force and milling vibration of waved-edge milling inserts are studied,the empirical model of milling force is obtained.The experimental results show that the milling force and the milling vibration displacement increase with the increase of feed rate,axial depth and radial depth.The vibration of perpendicular to the feed direction decreases with the increase of milling speed.The feed rate has the greatest influence on the milling force,and the milling speed has little effect on milling force and feed direction vibration.Compared with the linear-edge milling inserts in the same conditions,the milling force of waved-edge milling inserts is reduced by 10%?20%,and it has better machining stability.The waved-edge works excellently on chip-splitting,its chip is tiny and scaly.Last,the cutting-tool wear of waved-edge and linear-edge milling inserts are comparatively studied.The experimental results show that the wear resistance of waved-edge milling inserts,compared with which of the single tooth milling,is obviously improved when using double tooth milling.Waved-edge milling inserts exhibit better wear resistance than linear-edge inserts.The research of this paper has provided certain theoretical basis and guidance for the development of the indexable milling inserts with complex structure and the improvement of the performance of tools.
