Study On Carbon Consumption Structure And Carbon Emission Reduction Potential Of Urban Residents In Beijing From The Perspective Of Consumerism

Since the 1980s,with the development of China's reform and opening up and the policy of "expanding domestic demand",the consumer behaviour of Chinese consumers has changed significantly.The introduction of consumerism into China is shaping residents' consuming philosophy,and the income and consumption levels of the residents have increased rapidly,resulting in the high carbon status of residents'carbon consumption,thus the energy consumption and carbon emission caused by residents' consumption have received increasing attention in recent years.From the consumerism perspective,this paper constructed the residents,consumption pattern based on the income and specific consumption behaviour of the residents.Through calculating the carbon consumption of residents living in different consumption patterns and different consumption expenditure items,this paper analysed the difference between the quantity and structure of the carbon consumption of residents living in different consumption patterns,in order to explore the specific impacts of consumerism on the residents' carbon consumption and calculate the potential for related carbon emission reduction.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows:1.Based on the differences in income level and consumer behaviour,residents'consumption patterns under consumerism can be divided into three categories:conspicuous consumption,utilitarian consumption and frugal consumption,and we can get the operational carbon reduction from the gap between the conspicuous consumption and the utilitarian consumption.2.Under the influence of consumerism,the disparity of per capital consumption expenditure between conspicuous consumer groups and utilitarian consumer groups is widening,and the gap between traffic and communication expenditure is the expenditure project with fastest expansion speed.3.In the residents' direct energy carbon consumption,the carbon emission produced in the traffic oil consumption by conspicuous consumer groups increased most notably.In the residents' indirect energy carbon consumption,the carbon emission produced in the traffic and communication consumption by conspicuous consumer groups increased most notably.4.If you don't adjust the existing residents' consumption behaviour,in the next five years,the operational reduction of direct energy carbon emission in Beijing should be 31.5%of the total direct energy carbon consumption that year,which can be achieved by optimizing of the residents' energy structure continuously and promoting green mode of transport in conspicuous consumer groups.5.If you don't adjust the existing residents' consumption behaviour,in the next five years,the operational reduction of indirect energy carbon emission in Beijing should be more than 14.7%of the total indirect energy carbon consumption that year,which can be achieved by encouraging green mode of consumption in conspicuous consumer groups,weakening their consumption habits of frequently changing products for the purpose of showing off in the traffic and communication,housing and clothing and other consumption expenditure projects.
