A water-based gravure ink with excellent performance and green environmental protection has been developed, for solving the problems of water resistance, solvent resistance, stability and abrasion resistance etc.The ratio of the binder, the pigment and additives were screened by the basic principles of print ability, polymer chemistry and the method of one-factor optimization; And the factors including viscosity, water resistance, solvent resistance, abrasion resistance, anti-yellowing,adhesion and stability etc.were comprehensive analyzed. The best ratio of components were obtained by orthogonal experiment.A well-performed water-based gravure ink formulation is obtained. The main performances were measured by the abrasion tester, anti-yellowing test box and digital viscometer, and the experimental data were recorded. The optimal experimental formula was determined as follows: the amount of water is 80%, the amount of starch is 2%.the amount of polyvinyl alcohol is 3%, the amount of pigment is 12%, the amount of oxidizing agent is 0.4%, the amount of pasteurizer is 0.4%, the amount of additives is 2.2%, the mass ratio of above the components is 100%.The results showed that the Intaglio water-based ink is made from a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol and starch paste by physical blending method, which process was simple.pollution-free,the price of the equipment was low and the cost was reduced. This kind of water-based gravure printing ink made by the mixture emulsion is suitable for the industry requirements of photogravure printing. Further optimization of the experimental scheme, the water-based gravure ink was improved in water resistance, solvability, adhesion and abrasion resistance.
