As the pillar of economy and important energy consumption sector, the rapid development of industry has brought tremendous carbon emissions. To explore the factors that affect the growth of carbon emissions, and to coordinate the relationship between industrial development and carbon emissions, have become urgent problems to be solved. This paper chooses Beijing(China)as the study case.Based on the data of 32 industrial sectors from 2005 to 2012 in Beijing, the dominant factor influence of carbon emission changes, the relationship between carbon emissions and industrial growth have been studied.Firstly, the carbon emissions of 32 industrial sectors are calculated in this paper. The energy consumption and carbon emissions of industry in Beijing showed a slight downward trend from 2005 to 2012.The energy consumption has been dominated by 5 energy-intensive sectors, such as the Production and Distribution of Electric Power and Heat Power.Secondly,we apply the LMDI decomposition method to decompose the carbon emissions of Beijing from 2005 to 2012.The factors in this paper are economic scale effect, energy intensity effect, energy structure effect, industrial structure effect,as well as coefficient effect. The result shows that economic scale is the main contributor to the increase of carbon emissions in Beijing from 2005 to 2012,while energy intensity is the key factor to the decrease of carbon emissions. At last,we bring in the concepts of decoupling elasticity index and decoupling effort index to evaluate the carbon reduction performance of Beijing's 32 industrial sectors and make the comparison. The results indicate that “strong decoupling” and “weak decoupling” were the main characteristics during the study period. There are strong decoupling efforts over the entire study period. In addition, the decoupling state varied in different industrial sectors over the study period.Through the research of the above three parts,we can study the influencing factors, the development trend and the decoupling state of carbon emissions in Beijing's industrial sectors. These results may provide some support for the government to formulate emission reduction policy. At the same time, the research mentality of this paper can also be extended to other industries and cities.
