Due to the rapid development of aluminum industry and the application of the large aluminum electrolysis reduction cell,the carbon anode is required with the higher quality.As one of the main raw materials,the quality of coal tar pitch has a direct impact on the performance of carbon anode.The coal tar pitch used in aluminum industry was change from medium temperature pitch to modified pitch in the China.Compared with medium temperature pitch,the content of QI in the modified pitch was gradually increased.The QI content in coal tar pitch has a great influence on the performance of coal tar pitch,the preparation process of carbon anode,and the properties of carbon anode.In this paper,we studied the effect of the QI content on the properties of pitch with the same softening point and the final properties of carbon anode.The main results are showed as follow?(1)With the increase of the content of QI,ash and s content in coal tar pitch almost unaffected;with the increase of the content of QI,TI content increased and ?content decreased;with the increase of the content of QI,coke value increased and volatiles decreased;(2)With the increase of QI content,the viscosity with same temperature increased,the maximum weight loss rate and total weight loss of the coal tar pitch decreased with the increase of temperature;(3)When the mixing temperature is the same,with the increase of the content of QI,the density of green anode,bulk density,compressive strength,fear strength decreased,and the open porosity and conductivity of carbon anode increased;(4)When the viscosity of pitch is the same,with the increase of the QI content,the density of green anode decreased;with the increase of the content of QI and coke value of pitch increases;the open porosity decreased with the QI content increasing;the conductivity of carbon anode increased with QI content increasing;the compressive and fear strength of carbon anode increased first and then decreased with the increase of QI content;when QI content is 8.58%,the compressive and fear strength of carbon anode had the best value.
