As the key component of automotive transmission system, gear box has a direct influence on cars in power and economical efficiency, manipulation in reliability and portability and transmission in stationarity and efficiency. The transmission failure caused by fatigue will greatly affect the vehicle performance, even going so far as to hidden danger to the personal and social security. It is imperative to have a study on the reliability of the gear box due to the importance role it plays in the vehicle performance. This article applies the reliability theory in the design of the reliability of the transmission and provides a specification and reliable design method for the design of transmission by means of the study on the design method of the conventional gear box. Combining with the conventional design method of transmission, this paper applied the theory of reliability to the design of transmission so as to make the design of the transmission safe and reliable. This paper determines the structure of the transmission and the conventional parameters including the number of gear, gear ratio and gear parameters based on the conventional design method of transmission. Secondly, set up reliability model of the transmission system based on the analysis of the common failure mode and fault of transmission. The reliability of the system of the transmission will be assigned to each main components including gear, shaft, spline and bearing on the premise of independent failure assumption. According to the different failure modes of each part of the transmission, make a reliability design for different parts of the transmission respectively. According to the design of the initial results, calculate the reliability of the transmission system considering the correlation of each part of the transmission failure based on the interference model of stress-strength in system layer. It will make a optimal design for the reliability allocation by adjusting the allocation of reliability appropriately after comparing the results with the target reliability. Finally, the test methods and steps for the reliability of the automotive transmission are given to clear up the test of gearbox assembly and the life of each part.
