This study is an attempt to investigate the problem about the way-finding and "four space factors" of large office buildings way-finding proposed by Gordon Best through horizontal parts in complex commercial buildings space. The practical impetus for the study was in that many of their users became lost.Gordon Best, president in the university of Manchester, completed a similar study to Manchester town hall in 1996.According to that study, the factors affecting horizontal space way-finding include the route length changes in route, number of direction changes, the total number of users, choice points and total ch-oices,the correlation with "lostness" is 0.56,0.86,0.85,0.93,0.97 respectively. My research adopts these above setting and investigation methods by part, however there are mainly several different points as follows.First, Ensured that customers is not very familiar with the shopping mall by interview him or her.Second, increasing return route, which is as the route of investigation to avoid wandering.Third, increasing the investigation from the subject about other important factors like store surface features, self sense of direction, mark instructions except space characteristics.I mainly adopts two methods to deal with the data:one is Control variate method, comparing two routes with four same factors. Another is Multivariate statistical analysis from Statistics. As the organization mode of large commercial building space is very multiple, this study will chose several typical space types, mainly including radial and linear gathered and oval gathered,in order to explore the relationship between "five elements" and the lost rate. The more analysis of results will be introduced in detail in the body.
