For urban rapid transport logistics market, an automobile factory joint Yuchai to carry out "gallop 4×2 truck exact match project". The purpose is to improve the fuel economy of vehicle, intensify efforts to expand the market. In this paper, the optimization of fuel economy for the whole vehicle has been investigated.On the study of improvement in the fuel economy of gallop 4×2 truck,,the paper mainly focuses on four aspects: Optimization of engine body, drive system and vehicle drag coefficient, application of new technology.The engine body is carried out as follows: the low inertia turbocharger is used to optimize the engine's low speed fuel consumption, and to optimize the engine's high speed fuel consumption. After the engine optimization, the same configuration is better than the optimization of the front power, and also the fuel consumption is much lower. Without any increase in the engine cost, the fuel consumption per hundred kilometers is reduced by about 3.6%.Cruise software is used to simulate 9 kinds of transmission system, and the use of real vehicle is generally taken into consideration to confirm the optimization scheme of the transmission system.After optimization, the power and economy of vehicle have been promoted.The shroud has been redesigned to make the cab transit to the box smoothly, which is analyzed by CAE simulation tools. By this way, the drag coefficient decreases by 19.4% and the vehicle Coating Resistance drop down by 3%-10%.Ordinary mechanical fan is taken place of the electromagnetic clutch fan, to make sure the temperature of water in the engine always remains in the best condition, which helps to cut down the energy consumption of the engine accessories, as well as the fuel consumption. By the application of new technology, the fuel consumption reduced by about 5% under the same speed in the top gear(90km/h).The vehicle has been improved based on the research results, the whole cycling fuel consumption(L/100km) under all kinds of road condition reduces by about 10%, which indicates that the fuel economy has been improved significantly.In this paper, the vehicle model by batch production has been studied, and the factors affecting the fuel economy of the vehicle have been analyzed. Taking the resource and the production or others into consideration, the above four aspects have been selected to investigate. It is found that, the research results are useful for the design and improvement of the new and old models, which provides the basis for the further optimization.
