Brick masonry is a kind of a material as a whole which is composed of brick and mortar.Brick is a kind of old civil engineering material, and therefore has a long history of brick masonry structure. It is mainly used for walls, arch bridges, temples, pagodas, and etc. Brick masonry structure develops up to now, laying mode in our country at present concluded Flemish garden wall bond, Flemish wall bond and cross bond.The invention of the cement in the 1820 s has greatly improved the strength of cement mortar, and promotes the development of the masonry structure. The calculation theory of masonry structure has been thoroughly studied, and the calculation method of the theory has been gradually improved. Masonry compression as its basic force state, the basic mechanical properties such as compressive strength of masonry, elastic modulus was fully researched.And consider its various factors, the theory calculation formula of various performance indicators are put forward. But the masonry methods does not consider as a factor in the theoretical calculation. In order to improve the accuracy of theoretical calculation, it is need for detail research to consider the impact of the masonry methods on its compression performance.The main content of this article:(1)The failure characteristics and ultimate strength values of brick masonry which was laid in different ways was compared and analysed by the axial compressive strength test. The influence of masonry methods to the compressive strength was discussed and the influence coefficient of masonry methods to the compressive strength was put forward at the same time.(2)On the basis of "Standard of masonry basic mechanics performance test method"(GB/T50129-2011), the arrangement of deformation measuring point in the axial compression test was adjusted according to the test purpose and the accurate stress-strain data was obtained. Fitting the stress-strain, the rise period of the constitutive curve of various brick masonry could be got. The constitutive relations and elastic modulus formula of each kind of brick masonry could be derived by analysis the test data.(3)The compressive strength and elastic modulus of brick masonries which were made in different laying ways and different height of the block was compared. The research resultindicates that, the influence of masonry methods to the compressive strength is equal with the increasing of the height of the block.(4)The compression mechanical performance of various brick masonries is analyzed by using great FEM analysis software ABAQUS. The result of the software is similar to the results of the test. The validity of the test results was proved.Based on the experiment and finite element analysis, the influence of masonry methods to the compressive strength was discussed. The influence coefficient values of masonry methods were proposed and provide experimental basis for improving theoretical formulas.
