Recently, the traditional architecture, especially the folk houses is disappearing at a breathtaking pace with the advancement of urbanization in China, and also the climate adaptability technology which was used in the traditional folk houses change according to local conditions. As the problem, such as the energy shortage and the environmental pollution, have become increasingly prominent today, these climate adaptability technologies not only are the carrier of the traditional cultural heritage, but also provide a reference for the energy conservation technology in the modern architecture.Huizhou tradition residence is the main research object of this studies. Firstly, it analyzed and discussed the passive energy conservation technologies in traditional folk houses by means of field survey, tests of indoor thermal environment and so on.After some correlative theoretical calculation, optimized and improved the technologies refer to the materials and processes in the modern architecture, and was used as the passive energy conservation technical solution of Huizhou residences. Moreover, the new energy technology was used as the active energy conservation technical solution of Huizhou residence.Secondly, the life cycle cost of Huizhou residences was divided into different stages. It was established that seven stages of life cycle cost model of Huizhou residences, including material production, transportation, construction, operation, maintenance and management, repair, as well as deconstruction-recovery. In addition, the costs was discounted with annual and non-annual cost models to calculate the Net Present Value of each passive energy conservation project to find the most optimal solution is obtained with minimal of Net Present Value. A model of incremental costs and incremental benefits in life cycle cost was built, which was used to analyze the profits brought by the utilization of new energy technologies for Huizhou residences. It introduced two different economics indexes that were the investment-increment dynamic payback period and the internal rate of return at the same time to analyze the economic feasibility of the energy conservation solutions of Huizhou residences. Finally, this paper applied the theory of life cycle cost to a typical modern folk house in the area of Huizhou to evaluate each energy conservation technical solution. It turns out that the life cycle cost of the pitched roof is the lowest in the single building envelop renovation solutions and the solution of cavity wall + pitched roof +ground bamboo cage is the lowest in the combination projects. However, the renovation project of cavity wall + pitched roof + ground bamboo cage has the shortest investment-increment payback period and largest internal rate of return, so it has a better prospect. In the new energy technology, the use of solar photo-voltaic and the ground-source heat pump system can save certain life cycle costs, while its incremental investment dynamic payback period and internal rate of return have been improved. By the sensitivity analysis of the power price to each energy conservation solution evaluation results, it turns out that the rise of the electricity price contributes to the popularization of the ground-source heat pump system.
