Intelligent substation is an important node and support in the Energy Internet and Smart Grid. It is an inevitable trend of intelligent substations to guarantee a long-term safe and reliable operation of electrical equipments and to change the traditional regular maintenance to condition-based maintenance. On-line monitoring transformers, circuit breakers, GIS, and other primary equipments in substation, establishing a monitoring device information model according to IEC61850 standard and designing a complete on-line monitoring system architecture is the precondition and basis for condition-based maintenance and the requirements of substation realizing digitalization, informatization and intelligentization. Considering the needs of the on-line monitoring of primary equipments, unified management of monitoring data and rapid processing, and in accordance with IEC61850 standard hierarchical structure and information model, a hierarchical distributed online monitoring system for primary equipments in intelligent substation was designed in this paper.Firstly, the main fault characteristic signal of transformers, circuit breakers and GIS was analyzed and the method of online monitoring was studied. Then, the communication network architecture and the structure of the information model based on IEC61850 standard was analyzed. And combined with the process on-line monitoring, the hierarchical distributed online monitoring system which consisted of primary equipments and multiple sensors, worksite monitoring devices, back-end servers were designed. The online monitoring system was divided into the process layer, the spacer layer and the substation layer. In the case of the circuit breaker, on-line monitoring information model was established. In this paper, the worksite on-line monitoring device in this system also was designed. As an intelligent electronic device of the spacer layer, the on-line monitoring device which has a design of integrative structure and modular function, realizes high-speed communication via Ethernet and has a wealth of signal interface is responsible for collecting the signal from the sensors, the signal pre-processing, on-site display and uploading data to the server. At last, the main feature of online monitoring data was analyzed. Referencing the processing of big data, the software architecture of Hadoop platform was selected to provide support for distributed storage and data mining of online monitoring data in the substation back-end server.The on-line monitoring device of this on-line monitoring system passed a strict test and operated successfully in the substation whose stability and reliability had been verified. This system has functions of data collection, on-site data display and monitoring data unified management. And the requirement of the real-time online monitoring data acquisition and the fast communication between different devices can be satisfied in this system. High-level demands for intelligent substation is well prepared including rapid fault diagnosis, condition-based maintenance auxiliary decision-making and so on.
