With the speeding up of urbanization and improvement of people’s living standards, residential outdoor environment attracts more and more attention. The wind environment research, as one of the major factors of building physical environment, is under the influence of group building space form, and has positive significance to solve the environment pollution problem as well as to protect residents’health.Firstly, this paper combed the domestic and foreign research developments in the field of wind environment, starting from the definition of space form and the generation of wind, in order to investigate the influence factors of wind environment, including:meteorological factors, residential area planning layout and residential underlying surface factors, so this paper mainly studies the residential area planning layout. Following, the paper does some research of eight residential districts in Nanjing, summarizes the characteristic of the present living space layout to be multiple, intensive, diversity, and ecology through analysising of their spatial form. Then a variety of outdoor wind environment evaluation system both at home and abroad were discussed, involved in wind speed, wind ratio, wind speed probability evaluation index, wind pressure. After a comprehensive analysis of the wind environment evaluation index, this paper put forward a wind environment evaluation index using in this study. Finally, the numerical simulation are used by CFD method and to explore the influence of layout form and space form to outdoor wind field through constructing three different group models, finding that the point group, left alternate arrangement, left sidelong arrangement can lead the wind effect to be better and reduce the resistance of wind. Compared to the spatial distribution of the same height, different height of building group combination is more beneficial to increase the average wind speed in the site, and the bigger the folding rate is, more advantageous to the natural ventilation. So in the practical design, it is recommended that the arrangement of multi-storey buildings in the direction of the wind and high-level buildings at the downwind area can both improve the overall average wind speed in summer and play a role of windbreak in winter.
