With the acceleration of urbanization and the rapid development of our society, the problem of traffic increasingly worse, which brought a series of social and environmental issues. Developing public transport rapidly, and forming a multi-level public transport network is regarded as a good way to solve this problem. Modem trams as a means of transportation between metro, light rail and conventional ground transportation entered a period of rapid development for moderate carrying capacity, clean environment, low investment, high reliability. This paper from the technical characteristics of modern trams analyzed the traffic impact of modem trams, and based that built a modem trams traffic benefit evaluation system using AHP-fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. Meanwhile, the paper also wrote a Java program, a one-touch evaluation process was achieved. Finally, this paper regarded Suzhou trams as an example, to verify the practicability of evaluation methods.From the three perspective contains travelers, motor vehicle, and regional public transportation system, this paper analyzes the traffic impact on the operation of modem trams. On this basis, this paper built a three layer contained travelers, motor vehicle, and regional public transport system, besides the evaluation system of total 16 indicators like the integration of high level rail transport, the saving time of passenger travel time during peak hours etc. Combined with the characteristics of the modem tram, some indicators algorithm model or evaluation criteria improved.This paper based AHP-fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method, and established a modem trams traffic benefit evaluation model. AHP method was used to determine the indicators weight, reducing the subjectivity when determining weight.Multi-level fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method was used to calculate evaluation results combined with the calculated weight with AHP. Further, in order to improve the practicability of this study, this article provided Java programs, and reduced the difficulty of the operation of the model.Finally, this paper regarded Suzhou tram project as an engineering example, combining traffic data of fieldwork and result of data traffic survey, using the evaluation model to evaluate the traffic effectiveness of the Suzhou New District Tram Line 1, and got the conclusion that the traffic effectiveness is good and verified the practicability of the evaluation method.
