Artificial heart-lung machine is mainly used in the heart, lungs and large vascular surgery, the quality of man-machine system directly affects the operation performance and the safety of life of patients, while there is no special study in the man-machine system design for it up to now. It is necessary to apply the design such as ergonomics, shape semantics theory method to improve the safety and agreeableness of medical equipment to enhance market competitiveness. Through literature research, user research, hospital in-depth interviews, collected data and analyzed the characteristics of man- machine system of the medical equipment, refined physical, psychological characteristics of medical staff and patients and their demand for the medical equipment. The actual operation process, behavior and environment of the artificial heart lung machine were analyzed, from which discovered that the lines and canals of existing equipment are various, operation interfaces are scattered, design language is not uniform and too mechanical. Based on these problems, paper advanced the design idea of "integration in whole, modularization in parts". Split and restructured the new constitution and the man-machine interface of the heart-lung machine, put forward the the system target keywords of professional, safe, friendly and beautiful, summarized the design of the eight evaluation principle. After three times of big iterative design, determined the whole function structure and design style for the final design. On this basis, the key man-machine data were confirmed and then designed the control devices, display devices, the overall shape, color and other details in depth. By applying software modeling and 3D printing, produced a model for the design evaluation. Finally completed the design practice of artificial heart-lung machine. Research showed that ergonomics would be integrated from the beginning to the end into the design of medical equipment as a necessary subject, and the design of medical devices will develop into directions of individualization, emotional and customization. Medical equipment design is a high technology, large investment, long cycle, multi field cooperation project. Designers should have the design thinking, standing in the user's angle to find problems and put forward methods to solve complex problems, plays an important role of a finder of problem and solution, the communicator between different fields.
