With the equipment of hydropower station becoming increasingly huge and complex and the means of maintenance becoming increasingly advanced and varied, maintenance of the equipment demands higher technical level of the staff, so the maintenance training for the staff becomes more important. As the traditional means of maintenance training of hydropower station has a lot of limits, such as the limited training time, the high training costs and the low coverage, so the study of an efficient means for training is significant.This paper applies the virtual reality technology to the maintenance training of hydro-turbine governor,builds three-dimensional model of the hydro-turbine governor with SolidWorks, creates the virtual scene with VRML, implements view of virtual scene in C ++ through the technology of Cortona ActiveX Control, achieves secondary development of Cortona and other interactive features through VRML Automation. Eventually, this paper developed the maintenance training platform of hydro-turbine governor. Trainers can learn the structure and working principle of hydro-turbine governor through the knowledge training system of the Platform, learn the processes of disassembly and assembly through the training system for disassembly and assembly, grasp the usual breakdowns and process of maintenance through the maintenance training system.The immersion and interactivity of the platform enables the staff to experience more immersively, and it can work at any time for any number of times.It has been proved that it is theoretically and practically significant for improving the quality of maintenance training for the staff by the means of visual maintenance training, it can also reduce the cost of training and improve the economic efficiency of the hydropower station.
