In recent years, with the rapid development of the construction industry, new building architecture and personalized architectural features continuous influx of people's vision, the major feature of structural development is large-scale and complex. The innovation of structural forms will increase the risks in the construction and propose more technical problems for building construction, so the safety and feasibility of the construction process of the construction program should be fully guaranteed. With the vigorous promotion and application of BIM technology, combining with the construction problems during the construction of complex structure faced by the construction industry, BIM-based virtual construction technology come into being.Based on the analysis of related research present situation about BIM and virtual construction, the paper has carried on the comprehensive theoretical and practical research, combining with the actual structure of steel bridge construction engineering application. The purpose of this paper strives to propose a technology system for guiding large and complex steel construction, and ensure security during construction. First of all, the parametric information model is established by the BIM software and three-dimensional model displayed on the screen within the system platform by the use of rendering technology, defining the related movement for realizing the virtual construction of the steel bridge construction process, intuitive showing the construction sequence of operation as well as the detailed construction procedure. Then, a structural mechanics simulation model is established by the model of a unified standard format, thus achieving construction simulation of steel bridge construction in different working conditions. BIM-based virtual construction technology comes into being by the successful implementation of these two processes. On this basis, a reasonable monitoring program is laid down for real-time monitoring the strain of bridge structure in the process of the construction. Analyzing the result of monitoring and variation of the master to determine the safety of the construction process, as well as provide the decision-making basis for the subsequent construction operation.Seeking to proposing solutions for problems in the construction of large and complex steel structures, this paper adopted technological means to guide construction of large and complex steel structures and conducted an application research on BIM-based virtual construction technology and construction monitoring analysis in steel structure construction. The research combined visualized construction process, mechanics simulation in construction and in-situ monitoring to provide technological support for the final decision making of large and complex steel structures' construction scheme. Meanwhile, the research represents the new thought for solving problems in the construction of large and complex steel structures in the field of building construction industry as well as possesses potential economic and social benefits.
