As a new type of gear transmission,the face gear with curved tooth has a bright future in drive systems of navigation craft and aircraft.In this paper,a small module face gear with curved tooth and a involute cylindrical worm have been studied with finite element analysis,then lay the foundation for the calculating method of timevarying mesh stiffness and transfer stress of face gear with curved tooth.At first,some existing calculating methods of meshing stiffness are introduced,and their disadvantages and limitations are analyzed.Then based on gear geometry and gear formation theory,this paper derives the mathematical model for the involute cylindrical worm and face gear with curved tooth,obtains the discrete coordinates which is on the tooth surface.On this basis establishes the geometry model and assembly model,then develops the face gear model with five teeth.Then elaborates the calculating method of time-varying mesh stiffness based on the finite element analysis.The accuracy of this method is verified by an example of straight tooth column gear.Though the contrast with available literatures,the calculating method in this paper is checked.At last,the finite element model of face gear with curved tooth is created in ANSYS.Then applies the finite model to analyze the gears in several different meshing positions during the transmission.The transfer stress variation trends and time-varying mesh stiffness of the face gear with curved tooth are obtained respectively.
