With the development of structural control theory,structural control technology is applied markly in the civil engineering.As a passive control method,energy dissipation damping technology has been proved effective in seismic reduction.One of the most common energy dissipation damping device is the nonlinear viscous damper,due to the advantages of significantly damping effect and durability.However,there are still some problems in the practical engineering.The failing to form a proven system in their production,quality control and the application,because the use of viscous dampers in domestic civil engineering is just a little.And in the existing engineering,the cases of damper failure can be found constantly.Once the damper failure,some unexpected results will happen.In this paper,the study on the influence on energy reduction effect of the structure with nonlinear viscous dampers is done,especially the bracing stiffness and the connection gap.In the study of damping effect parameters,the paper begins with the cases alpha =land alpha =0 and study the damping effect formula under the two conditions.Thereafter,it obtains the damping effect formula of nonlinear viscous damper by using linear corresponding interpolation.Then,according the formula,the paper draws the corresponding curve figures of the influence factors.During the analysis process,it shows that the method is simple and in good agreement with the previous researches.In the following content,it studies the impact of connection gap on the energy dissipation effect of nonlinear viscous dampers through the viscous damper performance test,analysis of ETABS program software and the theory formula.In the performance test and the software analysis,a preliminary understanding of the impact of connection gap on the damper's capability of energy dissipation can be got.finaily,equivalent energy consumption algorithm and equivalent viscous damping coefficient is deduced on the basis of energy equivalent method and the calculation formula of the damper's energy dissipation.Through the above research,we obtains the approximate range of the influence factors and the equivalent damping coefficient,which will provide the basis for the structural design with nonlinear viscous dampers.
